HYMENOPTERA :: Vespidae :: Polistinae :: Polistes

Polistes strigosus Bequaert, 1940


Appearance

Workers body length 18–19 mm; queens: 18–19 mm; males: 18–20 mm.

Medium sized wasps. Uniform dark to reddish brown. Pronotum striate, with carina separating its dorsal and lateral sides. Dorsal mesepisternal groove lacking.


Biology

Specialised in caterpillars. Adults feed on tree sap (e.g. Citrus). Nest small and attached to vegetation, with a pedicel, its and cells' axes forming a right angle.


Distribution

China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore
