The genus includes 137 species, in Hong Kong 4 species

Ampulex compressa (Fabricius, 1781)

Ampulex cuprea Smith, 1856

Ampulex dissector (Thunberg, 1822)

Ampulex seitzii Kohl, 1893

Biology

Members of this family use various cockroaches as prey for their larvae, that gained them English common name “cockroach wasps”. 

Distribution

Predominately tropical regions, only 3 species are known from the Palaearctic region.
